Islamabad, August 8, 2025 – An inspection team from the Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat, led by Senior Advisor Ahmad Farooq, visited the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Head Office to investigate a large number of complaints about irregularities in the programme’s operations.
During the visit, the team recommended that BISP explore transferring financial assistance directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and prevent unfair deductions. They also instructed BISP to conduct a thorough probe into corruption allegations made by some beneficiaries against officials.
The team directed that women declared ineligible for assistance be informed in writing of the reasons, reducing the need for repeated visits. Several women present complained of repeated trips to the office, unexplained deductions from their grants, and instances where CNICs were damaged by being marked with future dates in indelible ink, making them unusable.
Earlier, BISP officials briefed the inspection team on ongoing projects, noting that the programme currently provides financial relief to over 10 million low-income families. They also highlighted initiatives for children’s education, nutrition, and newborn care.
This inspection underscores the Wafaqi Mohtasib’s commitment to safeguarding public welfare and ensuring that assistance reaches deserving families with fairness and dignity.
