MULTAN: Ombudsperson Punjab Dr. Najma Afzal Khan visited Multan and addressed the media regarding measures being taken to prevent workplace harassment and protect women’s rights across the province.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Najma Afzal Khan stated that out of nearly 1,400 workplace harassment cases reported to the Ombudsperson Office, more than 1,300 cases resulted in punishments, reflecting the strict implementation of anti-harassment laws in Punjab.
She emphasized that the prevention of harassment remains a top priority and informed that directives have been issued to all departments for the activation of institutional inquiry committees to ensure timely handling of complaints.
The Honourable Ombudsperson further shared that regional offices of the Provincial Ombudsperson have been established in nine districts of Punjab to improve public access to justice and facilitate citizens at the local level.
Dr. Najma Afzal Khan also highlighted the office’s efforts in addressing women’s property and inheritance rights, stating that thousands of women deprived of their legal entitlements had been provided relief through the institution.
She informed that more than 5,000 women had so far been granted ownership rights in property-related cases through the Ombudsperson Office.
The Ombudsperson Punjab also warned that false complaints and baseless allegations would not be tolerated and could result in legal action against complainants.
Reaffirming her commitment, Dr. Najma Afzal Khan stated that the Ombudsperson Office would continue to ensure safe workplaces, speedy justice, and effective protection of women’s rights throughout Punjab.
