LARKANA: The Regional Director Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Larkana, has emphasized that all prisoners must be provided with complete facilities in accordance with the jail manual, including food, drinking water, accommodation, medical treatment, and legal assistance.
He expressed these views while visiting the Central Jail Larkana, where he inspected various barracks and interacted directly with prisoners to hear their problems and complaints. Addressing inmates, he urged them to inform the authorities about any issues, particularly delays in medical treatment or legal proceedings.
During the visit, several prisoners complained that their cases were not being heard on time and that they were not being produced before courts within the stipulated period. Taking notice, the Regional Director instructed jail staff to ensure timely court appearances and to provide necessary legal facilities to under-trial prisoners.
He also inspected the jail’s drinking water filtration plant, drainage system, and the hospital established for prisoners’ treatment. Directing the medical staff, he stressed that inmates must be provided prompt medical care and that proper attention should be paid to their food and overall well-being.
Jail Superintendent Larkana Abdul Fatah Kalhoro informed the visiting officials that prisoners are provided meals on time, medical treatment for illnesses, and vocational training facilities within the jail.
The Regional Director Ombudsman Sindh, along with the District Health Officer Larkana, Jail Superintendent Larkana, and Deputy Director Social Welfare, jointly visited the jail kitchen, medical ward, and vocational training center, and inquired from prisoners about the facilities available to them.
On the occasion, Dr. Shaukat Ali Abro and officials from relevant departments were also present.
