The Honourable Ombudsman Punjab, First Vice President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), and Asian Regional Director, led a high-level delegation from the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab to the International Conference of Ombudsman held in Rome, Italy, from 27–29 May 2026. The conference was convened under the auspices of the Ombudsman of the Lazio Region and brought together ombudsman institutions from around the world to exchange experiences and promote best practices in public administration and governance.
During the conference, the Honourable Ombudsman Punjab delivered a presentation titled “Law Meets Technology: Transforming Governance, Accountability and Justice through Innovation.” The presentation showcased the Office’s pioneering initiatives, including the Ombudsman Punjab Management Information System (OPMIS), Helpline 1050, Mobile Outreach Complaint Vans, and the Office’s ISO 9001:2015 certification, highlighting Pakistan’s progress in leveraging technology to enhance public service delivery and strengthen accountability.
The delegation also engaged with Mr. Dott. Marino Fardelli, Ombudsman for Prisoners’ Rights, Lazio Region, and participated in sessions at the Italian Parliament as well as a General Audience at the Vatican. These engagements provided valuable opportunities for international dialogue, institutional collaboration, and the exchange of best practices in ombudsmanship and citizen-centric governance.
The delegation comprised Mr. Kaiser Saleem (PAS), Secretary; Mr. Sami Ullah, Advisor (Finance & Procurement / IT Infrastructure & Development); Ms. Dur-e-Shahwar, Director (Administration & Finance); and Ms. Sidra Arshad, Deputy Director (Procurement & Development).
The visit reaffirmed the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab’s commitment to innovation, transparency, accountability, and strengthening international partnerships to improve public service delivery. It also reflected Pakistan’s growing leadership in promoting modern, technology-driven ombudsman services at the global level.
