Islamabad: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Assembly Secretariat and the Ombudsperson Secretariat, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at the Parliament House, Islamabad, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration on women’s rights and workplace protections.
The agreement was signed by Acting Secretary of the National Assembly, Mr. Saeed Ahmad, and Provincial Ombudsperson of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ms. Rubab Mehdi. Special Secretary (Special Initiatives) of the National Assembly, Syed Shamoon Hashmi, along with officials from both institutions, attended the signing ceremony.
The MoU seeks to enhance cooperation, coordination, and information-sharing between the two bodies to advance women’s rights including safeguarding inheritance rights, promoting meaningful participation in the parliamentary system, and ensuring effective enforcement of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010.
Under the agreement, a framework has been set up for information sharing, capacity building, consultations, and technical cooperation, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to their constitutional mandates, institutional autonomy, and parliamentary privileges.
The MoU further strengthens ties between the KP Ombudsperson Secretariat and the National Assembly’s Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, with a focus on raising public awareness, protecting inheritance rights, promoting women’s participation in parliamentary processes, and supporting stronger legislative oversight through sustained dialogue.
