PESHAWAR: Women Ombudsperson Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ms. Rubab Mehdi, on Friday met with Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Shahab Ali Shah, and briefed him on the steps being taken to prevent workplace harassment and safeguard women’s property rights across the province.
The meeting was attended by divisional commissioners through an online link. A detailed presentation was given on the performance of the Ombudsperson’s office, highlighting the status of cases, key achievements, and the future roadmap aimed at ensuring women’s dignity and protection of their legal rights.
The meeting was informed that the Ombudsperson’s office has been providing speedy justice free of cost while maintaining transparency in its proceedings. From July to December 2025, a total of 509 cases were disposed of and 8,520 hearings were conducted. It was noted that while the backlog of cases has significantly reduced, the number of new complaints has increased, reflecting growing public trust in government mechanisms for the protection of women.
Ms. Rubab Mehdi also informed the meeting that Khuli Kacheris would be held before Ramadan in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Malakand, and Hazara divisions in coordination with the respective commissioners. In addition, awareness seminars will be organized at the divisional level across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on National Women’s Day, observed on February 12.
The Chief Secretary appreciated the performance of the Ombudsperson’s office and emphasized continued coordination to further strengthen protection mechanisms for women and ensure effective implementation of relevant laws.
