PESHAWAR: In a historic and first of its kind development, the Office of the Ombudsperson for Workplace Harassment and Women’s Property Rights, led by Ombudsperson Ms. Rubab Mehdi, welcomed a high-level delegation of provincial secretaries from the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The visit marks a major step toward stronger governance, institutional reform, and gender-responsive justice in the province.
The delegation included Mr. Syed Nazar Hussain Shah, Secretary Social Welfare and Women Empowerment; Mr. Akhtar Saeed Turk, Secretary Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights; Captain (Retd.) Kamran Ahmed Afridi, Secretary Finance; Mr. Muhammad Israr, Secretary Higher Education; and Mr. Muhammad Ayaz, Additional Secretary Law.
Principal Advisor Abbas Khan briefed the delegation on the Ombudsperson Office’s key initiatives aimed at improving women’s access to justice. These include a cause list of 80 active cases, a speedy trial model aligned with international development standards, and strong enforcement mechanisms that have provided relief to thousands of women.
The provincial secretaries commended Ombudsperson Ms. Rubab Mehdi for her effective reforms, noting that they reflect a shared commitment to responsive institutions, legal empowerment for women, and governance rooted in accountability and fairness.
This visit signals a unified effort between the government and the development sector to create safer workplaces, protect women’s property rights, and build a resilient justice system. It also reinforces the province’s commitment to transparent, efficient, and people-centered governance.
The strengthened role of the Ombudsperson’s Office is seen as a significant contribution to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s broader governance and development priorities.
