Peshawar: Provincial Ombudsperson Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rubab Mehdi, met with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, at Governor House Peshawar, and presented him with the institution’s annual performance report.
On this occasion, Rubab Mehdi informed the Governor that the institution had taken effective measures to provide women with their legal rights, as a result of which properties worth approximately Rs 4.1 billion were restored to women across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
She stated that the institution conducted more than 19,000 hearings during the past year, while an average of 80 to 200 complaints and cases are being resolved daily.
Rubab Mehdi informed the Governor that, for the first time, special open courts for women were held to provide justice at their doorstep, with dedicated participation of women ensured in Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.
She said that Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) have also been signed with the National Assembly and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to promote effective redressal of public complaints and cooperation on legislative matters.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, praised the performance of the Provincial Ombudsperson, saying that the provision of legal and economic rights to women is a welcome development. He said that the institution of the Provincial Ombudsperson is playing an important role in providing swift and affordable justice to the public, and its services for the protection of women’s rights are commendable.
