PESHAWAR: A high-level meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law, Mr. Aftab Alam Afridi, and Ombudsperson H.E. Rubab Mehdi marked a significant step toward strengthening justice, accountability, and people-centred governance in the province.
During the meeting, the Law Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law, advancing legal and institutional reforms, and ensuring that justice remains timely, accessible, and effective. He emphasized that laws must go beyond written statutes and translate into real and meaningful justice for citizens.
Mr. Raees, Principal Advisor to the Law Minister, highlighted the importance of integrating ombudsperson recommendations into legal reform agendas. He stressed the need for stronger institutional coordination to ensure implementation and compliance, as well as policy coherence between oversight bodies and executive action.
Ombudsperson H.E. Rubab Mehdi underscored the role of the Ombudsperson’s Office as a vital safeguard against injustice and abuse of authority. She emphasized that the institution provides accessible, non-adversarial avenues for redress and works to uphold fairness, dignity, and ethical governance.
She noted that the ombudsperson is not an adversary of the state but an essential mechanism for ensuring that public institutions remain accountable to the people they serve. Highlighting the importance of independent oversight, she stressed the need to amplify the voices of marginalized and underserved communities.
