PESHAWAR: In a landmark step toward strengthening democratic governance and institutional reform in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Provincial Ombudsperson Secretariat, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing parliamentary oversight, institutional accountability, and protection of citizens’ rights across the province.
The agreement establishes a formal framework for cooperation between the legislative and accountability institutions of the province, focusing on legislative support, public awareness, policy engagement, capacity building, gender-responsive governance, and accessible grievance redressal systems.
The MoU reflects a shared commitment to reinforcing democratic institutions, promoting transparency and the rule of law, strengthening public trust in governance, and advancing constitutional values through coordinated institutional collaboration.
Under the partnership, both institutions will jointly support parliamentary committees and forums, promote awareness regarding statutory protections and complaint mechanisms, and facilitate policy dialogue on issues of public importance. The collaboration will also include trainings, workshops, and technical sessions for Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), parliamentary staff, and other relevant stakeholders.
Special emphasis will be placed on women’s rights, child protection, workplace safety, prevention of harassment, administrative justice, and improving institutional responsiveness to public concerns.
The agreement further highlights the growing importance of parliamentary diplomacy and inter-institutional coordination in addressing emerging governance challenges and ensuring that public institutions remain transparent, accessible, inclusive, and accountable to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
