The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government highlighted a series of major achievements of the Office of the Women Ombudsperson under Ms. Rubab Mehdi, acknowledging significant progress made between 5 October and 28 November 2025.
According to the government’s social media updates, the Ombudsperson’s Office accelerated case hearings, handling an average of 70 to 80 cases per day. Over the 175-day period, 2,780 complaints were registered, with 1,156 cases resolved. Officials reported a disposal rate of 97 percent, with compensation amounts ranging from Rs.500 to Rs.2,500 in applicable cases. The rapid pace of hearings was cited as a key factor in delivering timely justice.
The government also noted immediate measures taken to protect women in vulnerable situations. Security directives were issued for seven affected women, with district administration and police implementing practical steps for their safety. The Ombudsperson’s System for Women provided sustained protection throughout the process.
Ms. Rubab Mehdi also represented Pakistan internationally at the Beijing+30 Conference in Chengdu, China, where she delivered a keynote address. She briefed global participants on KP’s progress under CEDAW, the Beijing Platform for Action, and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in relation to women’s rights and access to justice.
On inheritance rights, the Ombudsperson completed 17 field inspections across the province, ensuring the verification and rightful transfer of women’s property. Transparent decisions were recorded for 30 cases involving 15 kanals of land. In a larger category of cases involving 362 kanals, land distribution proceeded through protected processes, covering 48 heirs, 7 appeals, and 21 pending matters.
The government post also emphasized growing recognition from UN Women, the World Bank, and the Forum of Federations, which acknowledged the Ombudsperson’s contribution to women’s protection and accountability mechanisms. High-level meetings were held to discuss improved coordination and future reforms.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government described these achievements as strong indicators of efficient service delivery, transparency, and the strengthening of women’s rights across the province.
