PESHAWAR: The Ombudsperson Secretariat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under the leadership of Khatoon-e-Mohtasib, convened a significant multi-stakeholder consultation in Peshawar to advance the protection and promotion of women’s rights in the province.
Organized with technical support from UN Women Pakistan and the European Union under the #DeliverJustice Project, the consultation brought together Honourable Ministers, Women Parliamentary Caucus members, judicial representatives, civil society activists, lawyers, and media professionals for collaborative dialogue.
The session focused on strengthening the implementation of pro-women legislation, including the Child Marriage Restraint Bill, and improving enforcement of existing laws concerning domestic violence, inheritance and property rights, and workplace harassment.
In her remarks, the Khatoon-e-Mohtasib stressed, “The true measure of a nation lies not in the number of laws enacted, but in the extent to which those laws safeguard and uplift its most vulnerable citizens.” She emphasized that effective implementation is key to ensuring women’s access to justice.
Insights and recommendations from the consultation will feed into the development of a Comprehensive Action Plan for Pro-Women Legislation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, led by the Ombudsperson Secretariat.
The Secretariat extended its appreciation to all participants and acknowledged the ongoing support of UN Women and the European Union for their steadfast commitment to gender justice and institutional reform in the province.
