ISLAMABAD, Sep, 2025 – The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has successfully intervened to resolve a major technical error in the income tax return filing system that was affecting the salaried class.

Taxpayers had repeatedly encountered the error message “Please enter the correct receipt value” on the FBR’s IRIS portal, preventing them from completing their filings. Despite repeated efforts, tax lawyers and experts were unable to rectify the issue.

Following a hearing at the FTO headquarters, where PRAL (Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited) officials were summoned, the FBR agreed to remove the controversial “receipt value” check from returns. This immediate action has now enabled taxpayers to file their income tax returns smoothly before the September 30 deadline.

The hearing was conducted by FTO Advisors/Registrar Khalid Javed and Muhammad Naseer Butt. Tax lawyers Khurram Shahzad and Waheed Shahzad Butt represented the salaried taxpayers, while PRAL officials explained that the condition had been introduced at the directive of the FBR but was now withdrawn.

The FTO further directed PRAL to ensure that any future “errors” displayed on the IRIS portal must include clear explanations to facilitate taxpayers and prevent unnecessary hardship.

This development underscores FTO’s role in ensuring taxpayer facilitation, especially for the salaried class, by addressing systemic issues in tax administration.
