The Federal Ombudsman of Pakistan, Mr. Naveed Kamran Baloch, a member of the Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman (FPO), participated in the International Baku Ombudsmen Summit held in Baku, Azerbaijan, under the theme “Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities, Risks and Responsibilities.”
During the Summit, Mr. Baloch also served as a panelist, contributing to discussions on the protection and promotion of human rights amid rapid technological transformation. He shared perspectives on the evolving role of ombudsman institutions in safeguarding citizens’ rights in an increasingly digital world.
The Summit brought together heads and representatives of ombudsman institutions and national human rights institutions from nearly 30 countries, alongside representatives of international organizations, senior government officials, civil society organizations, and leading experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and human rights.
The discussions focused on a broad range of emerging issues, including the protection of rights in the digital environment, data protection and privacy, combating disinformation, the impact of artificial intelligence on employment and the labour market, transparency and accountability in AI systems, fairness and equality, and the promotion of digital literacy.
The participation of the Federal Ombudsman of Pakistan underscored the country’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and exchanging best practices among ombudsman institutions to effectively address emerging challenges at the intersection of artificial intelligence and human rights. The Summit also reinforced the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring that technological advancements remain aligned with the principles of justice, accountability, and the protection of fundamental human rights.
