Federal Ombudsman (Wafaqi Mohtasib) of Pakistan and Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman member, H.E Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, has expressed significant concern over ongoing complaints of inconsistencies, misconduct, excessive delays, and inadequate services at Passport Offices for the public. He has ordered an immediate review in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, and other key cities to address these issues and implement prompt corrective actions. It’s important to note that this directive follows an earlier initiative where an Inspection Team, prompted by suo moto actions due to numerous complaints about passport issuance delays, evaluated the Passport Office in Islamabad to understand the reasons behind service disruptions. The subsequent report from the Passport Office was criticized by the Wafaqi Mohtasib for being unsatisfactory and lacking depth. The Mohtasib highlighted that Overseas Pakistanis have been particularly affected, with many facing expired visas or job losses abroad due to these inefficiencies. Similar difficulties have been faced by those seeking to travel for education or family visits. He emphasized that those responsible for creating shortages through misconduct and other discrepancies must be identified and strictly penalized to ensure the smooth operation of Passport Offices.
