KOHAT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ombudsperson, Ms. Rubab Mehdi, organized a historic open court (Khuli Kachehri) in Kohat district in collaboration with the Commissioner Kohat Division and district administration, marking a major step toward strengthening citizen engagement and transparent governance.
The open court was attended by around 750 citizens, making it the first initiative of its kind in the district. The forum provided a direct platform for the public to present their grievances, with a focus on immediate resolution and improved access to justice.
Officials reported that approximately 97 percent of property-related complaints received during the session were resolved on the spot, demonstrating effective management, strong inter-departmental coordination, and swift response.
In addition, 202 human rights cases were presented and taken up for timely resolution through immediate referrals, facilitation, and coordination with relevant departments. The initiative highlighted a firm commitment to safeguarding citizens’ fundamental rights and addressing their concerns efficiently.
The event was attended by Commissioner Kohat Division Mr. Syed Muazam Bala Shah, Deputy Commissioner Kohat, and Member Provincial Assembly Mr. Dawood Afridi, reflecting strong institutional participation and collaborative governance.
A special awareness session was also conducted to educate citizens about human rights, available legal protections, and grievance redress mechanisms through the Ombudsperson’s office and district administration, significantly enhancing public awareness and empowerment.
The successful conduct of the open court under the leadership of Rubab Mehdi underscores the Ombudsperson’s commitment to improving access to justice, promoting transparency, and fostering public-friendly governance across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
