MULTAN: Dozens of consumers of the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) received relief worth over Rs1.1 million during a complaint hearing held at the Regional Office of the Federal Ombudsman in Dera Ghazi Khan.

The hearing was conducted by Investigation Officer Hafiz Muhammad Sohaib on the directives of Federal Ombudsman Naveed Kamran Baloch. During the session, 75 complaints filed by electricity consumers were reviewed and necessary instructions were issued to the concerned officials to ensure prompt resolution of the issues.

According to officials, several consumers had been charged excess or unjustified electricity bills. During the hearing, penalties imposed through these bills were waived on the spot, resulting in financial relief of approximately Rs1.1 million for the complainants.

To ensure that no case was delayed, the complaints of citizens who could not attend the hearing in person were also taken up through telephone calls and addressed accordingly.

Investigation Officer Hafiz Muhammad Sohaib said that citizens can approach the Ombudsman office without fear to lodge complaints against federal departments. He added that the institution is committed to providing accessible justice, noting that complaints are resolved within 60 days without any fee or the need for legal representation.

The complainants expressed gratitude to the Federal Ombudsman and the Investigation Officer for resolving their long-standing issues promptly, describing the Ombudsman institution as “a true court for the common man.”
