ISLAMABAD: An online meeting of the Bylaws Working Group of the Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman (FPO) was held at the FPO Secretariat to review and rationalize key provisions of the Forum’s existing Bylaws in line with contemporary governance needs and international best practices.
The meeting, chaired by the Executive Secretary FPO, focused on strengthening the institutional framework of the Forum, including matters related to the composition and tenure of the Board of Directors, election of office-bearers, membership structure, financial management, audit mechanisms, meeting procedures, and registration status of the Forum.
Participants deliberated on ensuring greater transparency, accountability, continuity of leadership, and effective functioning of the Forum. Emphasis was placed on aligning FPO’s governance practices with those followed by regional and international ombudsman associations, while preserving the Forum’s institutional character and independence.
The Working Group also discussed proposals regarding election procedures, quorum and voting thresholds, frequency of Board and General Assembly meetings, revision of membership fees, and financial oversight arrangements. It was agreed that recommendations emerging from the deliberations would be compiled and presented to the Board of Directors for consideration and subsequent endorsement by the General Assembly.
The meeting reaffirmed FPO’s commitment to democratic governance, institutional strengthening, and effective coordination among federal and provincial ombudsman institutions across Pakistan.
