SUKKUR: The Regional Office of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Sukkur, organized an important awareness programme on protection from harassment at the workplace for women at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Old Sukkur, on Monday.
The session was led by Muhammad Iqbal Arain, Consultant to the Provincial Ombudsman Sukkur, who briefed participants on the salient features of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2010.
Addressing the gathering, Muhammad Iqbal Arain said that harassment is a grave violation of human dignity and a major barrier to women’s professional and personal growth. He stressed that the objective of the Provincial Ombudsman’s Office is to ensure that every workplace in Sindh becomes a safe environment with zero tolerance for harassment.
He emphasized that every woman has the right to work in a respectful, safe, and discrimination-free environment, adding that silence should not be an option and complaints must be reported and addressed promptly. He described the Act of 2010 as both a protective shield for victims and a deterrent for offenders.
The awareness programme highlighted different forms of harassment, including physical, verbal, and psychological harassment, and informed participants about complaint mechanisms and legal safeguards available to them.
Taluka Education Officer Rukhshana Lashari and School Principal Zakiya Khanam Laar appreciated the initiative and underlined the importance of ensuring dignity, safety, and equality for all employees, particularly women.
The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating workplace harassment and promoting a safe, equitable environment where women can work with confidence and dignity.
