ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ombudsman Secretariat reported significant progress in providing free and swift justice against maladministration in federal government institutions during 2025.

According to an official handout issued on Saturday, the Federal Ombudsman decided 261,101 complaints during the year, with 96.8 percent of the decisions fully implemented. The Secretariat said that 91 percent of cases were resolved within the legally prescribed period of 60 days.

The Federal Ombudsman also addressed complaints of 137,152 overseas Pakistanis in 2025, ensuring timely relief to citizens living abroad.

To improve public access to justice, the institution organized 166 Open Courts (Khuli Katcheries) and conducted 232 Outreach Complaint Resolution (OCR) programs across the country, allowing thousands of complainants to seek justice closer to their homes. In addition, 7,356 complaints were amicably resolved under the Informal Resolution of Disputes (IRD) program.

Overall, the Federal Ombudsman provided relief to more than 400,000 complainants during the year. The total financial value of decisions issued in 2025 amounted to Rs. 10.2 billion, all provided without any cost to the complainants.

The press release said these initiatives reflect the Federal Ombudsman’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in federal institutions. The office continues to serve as an accessible public forum for resolving complaints against government departments.

It was further stated that separate Complaints Commissioners are working within the institution to specifically handle cases related to overseas Pakistanis and children.

The Secretariat reiterated that any citizen can file a complaint against maladministration in federal government institutions free of cost and without legal representation. All complaints are decided within 60 days. For assistance, citizens can contact the Federal Ombudsman through Helpline 1055, while complaints related to children may be registered via Helpline 1056.
