LAHORE: Provincial Ombudsperson Punjab Ms. Ayesha Hamid on Thursday emphasized the importance of preserving Pakistan’s cultural and classical music heritage while attending a special Sarangi concert organized by the Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra).
The event was held as a tribute to Pakistan’s rich classical music traditions and rare musical instruments. Renowned Sarangi virtuoso Mr. Zohaib Ahmed delivered a captivating performance, mesmerizing the audience with the soulful and emotive sounds of the Sarangi, reflecting deep cultural and spiritual expression.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Ayesha Hamid appreciated Alhamra’s efforts in promoting classical music and safeguarding traditional instruments. She remarked that cultural heritage plays a vital role in shaping social values and collective identity, and such initiatives help connect younger generations with Pakistan’s artistic roots. She noted that institutions like Alhamra serve as important platforms for preserving heritage while fostering creativity and inclusivity.
Chairman Alhamra Mr. Razi Ahmed also addressed the gathering and reiterated Alhamra’s commitment to protecting traditional and rare musical instruments. He described the Sarangi as a priceless cultural treasure of Punjab and Pakistan, deeply embedded in the region’s civilizational history, and stressed the shared responsibility of passing this legacy on to future generations.
The programme also featured the Alhamra Drum Circle, which attracted strong participation from young music enthusiasts. Mr. Nawaz Gondal, Executive Director Alhamra, observed that the growing interest of youth reflected the success of Alhamra’s initiatives in blending tradition with modern forms of musical expression.
