ISLAMABAD, September, 2025 — The Wafaqi Mohtasib Institution has won international recognition for its outstanding performance in redressing public complaints and upholding the core values of ombudsmanship, said Wafaqi Mohtasib Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi while speaking to journalists in Islamabad.
Honorable Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi , who is also the President of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA), recently chaired the Association’s 26th Annual Board of Directors Meeting and 18th General Assembly in China. He noted that Pakistan, as a founding member of the AOA, continues to hold a position of prominence, often leading the Association since its inception in 1996.
He highlighted that the AOA had undertaken 347 activities in 2024–2025, a sharp rise from 148 in 2022–2023, underscoring its role as a dynamic and vibrant regional body, a status also recognized by the United Nations. The AOA will mark its 30th anniversary in 2026 in Hong Kong.
Domestically, Qureshi described 2024 as a “momentous year” for the WMS, which received 226,371 complaints, successfully disposing of 223,171 cases. In 2025, the number is expected to surpass 250,000, with 180,000 complaints already received by mid-September, of which 176,828 have been resolved.
He added that the WMS has also made special efforts for Overseas Pakistanis and children, facilitating 149,060 overseas citizens in 2024 and 90,132 so far in 2025 through the Grievance Commissioner (Overseas Pakistanis) office.
Qureshi reaffirmed that the institution’s mission is rooted in good governance, rule of law, and protection of human rights, values that have now gained international acclaim for Pakistan.
