NANJING, Sep 12, 2025 – Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, President of the 47-member Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA), has emphasized the need for greater collaboration and exchange of best practices among ombudsman institutions worldwide to strengthen governance, promote the rule of law, and improve public service delivery.
Addressing the 26th Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors and the 18th General Assembly of the AOA in Nanjing, China, Mr. Qureshi highlighted the pivotal role of ombudsman institutions in providing free and expeditious redress of grievances while streamlining procedures for efficient administration.
The Board of Directors, comprising ombudsman heads from Azerbaijan, China, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Korea, Tatarstan, Türkiye, and Pakistan, reviewed the Association’s annual activities and discussed upgrading facilities at the AOA Secretariat’s Resource Centre in Islamabad.
The General Assembly was followed by an international workshop on “Effective Ombudsmanship for People’s Livelihood”, attended by regional and global delegations. Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Qureshi underscored that ombudsmanship fosters an environment where citizens’ rights are safeguarded and contributes significantly to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
