Nanjing, September 9, 2025 – Federal Ombudsman of Pakistan and President of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA), Mr. Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, played a key role at the annual Board of Directors Meeting and the 18th General Assembly of AOA, hosted by the National Commission of Supervision (NCS) of China in Nanjing.
During the high-level gathering, which brought together ombudsman institutions from across Asia, Mr. Qureshi witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Cooperation between the Ombudsman of Hong Kong, Mr. Jack Chan, and the Chief Ombudsman of Thailand, Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit. The agreement, a product of collaboration initiated earlier this year in Morocco, aims to strengthen mutual cooperation, promote exchange of expertise, and enhance the global role of ombudsman institutions.
As AOA President, Mr. Qureshi emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in advancing accountability, transparency, and citizens’ access to justice. His presence underscored Pakistan’s leading role in fostering ombudsman collaboration across Asia.
The General Assembly featured participation from countries including Azerbaijan, Iran, Korea, Japan, Türkiye, Thailand, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, alongside Hong Kong and Macao SAR. Delegates engaged in discussions on the evolving role of ombudsman institutions in addressing governance challenges and protecting citizens’ rights.
An international workshop on “Effective Ombudsmanship for People’s Livelihood” will follow on September 10, where Mr. Qureshi will continue to represent Pakistan’s leadership in the global ombudsman community.
