ISLAMABAD, August 2025 – The Wafaqi Mohtasib has taken notice of severe traffic congestion at D-Chowk caused by ongoing vehicle inspection exercises conducted by the environment division. The Ombudsman has summoned the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Director General Environment of Islamabad on August 29 to explain the causes of the disruption.
For the past several weeks, the environment division has set up a camp at D-Chowk to test vehicles for environmental compliance and issue stickers. However, the exercise, which runs from morning to late afternoon, has resulted in significant inconvenience to commuters and residents.
Concerned citizens lodged complaints with the Ombudsman, pointing out that choosing a sensitive location such as the Red Zone for these inspections has created unnecessary gridlock. The Ombudsman also questioned why no prior awareness campaign was launched and why only one inspection point was established for the entire federal capital.
The ICT administration and environment officials have been directed to clarify these issues during the August 29 hearing.
