Karachi, August 2025: In a significant move to enhance social protection for workers, Dr. Amir Ahmed Shaikh, Member In-charge of the Federal Ombudsman Regional Office Karachi, has directed the integration of the Wafaqi Mohtasib Complaint System with the Employees Old-age Benefits Institution (EOBI) dashboard. The initiative aims to streamline complaint resolution and improve coordination among federal and provincial entities for the benefit of workers in the industrial and commercial sectors.

During his visit to the EOBI head office, Dr. Shaikh stressed the urgent need for inter-agency data sharing, especially among SECP, EOBI, and provincial labour departments. He underscored that worker-centric social security must prioritize poor and less-informed workers, particularly in rural areas.
To bridge the information gap, Dr. Shaikh proposed a mass awareness campaign using TV, radio, social media, SMS alerts, and mobile ringtones to educate employees rather than employers about their rights and entitlements under EOBI.
The Ombudsman’s inspection team, including Director Admin RO Karachi Rashid Ahmed Shaikh and Consultant Media Taqi Muhammad Soomro, received a briefing on EOBI’s operations covering registration, contributions, fund management, and benefit distribution.
Acting Chairman EOBI Dr. Jawaid A. Shaikh shared that over 11.59 million employees and 156,259 employers have been registered, with 850,000+ beneficiaries receiving support nationwide. In Karachi alone, 259,924 individuals have benefited under EOBI’s umbrella. The institution also operates quasi-judicial forums to address grievances of employees and pensioners.
Dr. Shaikh applauded EOBI’s digitization initiatives and urged its leadership to continue delivering honest and dedicated service, ensuring that every deserving worker in Pakistan is protected and empowered.
